    MICROGEN COLLECTION

  • MICROGEN has a collection of more than 2000 microbial strains for fundamental and biotechnological research.
  • The storage of microbial strains began 40 years ago as a result of research projects or PhD thesis. Since then, we have expanded our collection each year with newly isolated strains from various ecological niches.
  • Since 2024 MICROGEN is observator member Microbial Resource Research Infrastructure – European Research Infrastructure Consortium (MIRRI-ERIC) affiliated to the WFCC (World Federation of Culture Collections).

EXPERIENCE

The microbial collection encompasses a diverse array of organisms for a wide range of applications:

  • Microorganisms with biopharmaceutical applications, such as antimicrobials, probiotics, and members of the normal human microbiota.
  • Microorganisms used in the development of safe, healthy, and sustainable food and feed products.
  • Microbial strategies for the biological management of soils and crops.
  • Pathogenic microorganisms associated with infectious diseases in humans and animals.
  • Microbial strains utilized in the bioremediation of polluted soil/water.
  • Microbial strains for the production of biofuels and bioplastics.
